Hyperextension Deformity
Hyperextension deformity is characterized by a given joint “bending back” beyond its natural/neutral position. While the cause of this deformity is multivariate, it can substantiate presence of significant pain, discomfort and decrease in hand function and strength. Cygnet offers a number of splints in this category which can be used strictly for pain and/or joint instability/weakness management, whether hyperextension is present or not.
The splints in this category are applicable to the following finger and thumb joints: DIP, PIP, IP, MCP (of the thumb) and CMC.

Flexion Deformity
Flexion deformity is characterized by a given joint “bending down” into flexion with difficulty straightening it into its neutral position. While the causes of this deformity can vary, its effects on function may be significant but treatable and/or preventable. Cygnet offers a number of splints in this category which can be used strictly for pain and/or joint instability/weakness management, whether a flexion deformity is present or not.
The splints in this category are applicable to the following finger and thumb joints: DIP, PIP, IP.

Deviation Deformity
Deviation deformity is characterized by a given finger deviating to the side away from its natural position. While the cause of this deformity is multivariate, it can present with numerous manifestations, being pain, joint instability, in addition to decreased hand function and strength. Cygnet offers a number of splints in this category which can be used strictly for pain and/or joint instability/weakness management, whether a deviation deformity is present or not.
